HOW TO MAKE THE ESPRESSO MARTINI

Ladies and Gentleman, girls and boys, today we’re making the espresso martini. We’re going to be using vanilla vodka, Kahlua, a proper espresso, some sugar syrup and my favourite - cocoa bitters. So let’s go!

You’ll need ice in the shaker, and we go straight in with 50ml of your vanilla vodka - that is a double to us mere mortals. Then we go in with the coffee, hot coffee - that’s basically 30ml. Then 25ml of your coffee liqueur, I’m using Kahlua there are others that you can use. Straight in, and 15ml of sugar syrup just to sweeten it up a little bit. And finally, some good dashes of cocoa bitters, and as I always say, when you’re using bitters, make sure you go generous on them, they are the condiment to your cocktail.

Then 20 shakes, here we go! Nice and really cold, you want to see that frosting on your shaker.

Get your coupe glass ready, and now we’re going to double strain, from a slight height. Make sure we get a nice froth, it’s pure deliciousness, and it will divide beautifully between the froth and the actual cocktail. And now we come to the garnish, and this is always the tricky bit - we’re going to garnish with three coffee beans all in a row. I like to place them straight down the middle, so take your time on this as you want the beans nestling nicely into the froth. And then finally, just because they’re beautifully pretty, we’re going to finish off the garnish with a little viola that just sits on the side. That finishes it off nicely.

And that’s your Espresso Martini!
